SUNDAY RACE RECAP—CHAMPIONSHIP OFF ROAD RACING ROUND 6 at THE FAIRPLEX IN POMONA

Pomona, CA (June 8, 2008)—In an eventful weekend complete with heated battles and fights to the finish, Todd LeDuc came out the big winner at the Fairplex in Pomona in Championship Off Road Racing.

Todd LeDuc in his Makita/Rockstar #3 dominated the Pro 2 class holding onto the lead throughout the race.  Behind LeDuc, two neck and neck battles broke out; one between Carl Renezeder and the #8 Skyjacker Ford of Scott Taylor for second, and another between Pro 2 Champion Jerry Whelchel and Rob MacCachren in his Menzies Motorsports #21 for fourth.  After the competition yellow, Renezeder in the Lucas Oil/Skyjacker #17 truck worked his way up the line to second getting past Whelchel and Taylor, but a flat tire dropped him back.  Now running in second, Whelchel got a flat tire in the last lap opening the window for Ricky Johnson in his Red Bull/Bosch Power Tools #9 truck to take the position. Whelchel held onto third to round out the podium.

At the completion of lap one the #4 Monster Energy Drink/Forest County Potawatomi Toyota of Johnny Greaves led the Pro 4 race with Rick Huseman in his Fabtech Toyota close behind, followed by Bully Dog/Toyo Tire’s #86 of Josh Baldwin and #19 Troy Herbst.  After the mandatory yellow, Greaves slowed allowing Huseman to run away with the lead and Baldwin to move into third.  In lap 12, Baldwin went wide into the wall out of turn one taking him out of the race.   Carl Renezeder in his Lucas Oil Pro 4 truck worked his way up the line into second to battle it out with Huseman while Curt LeDuc in his Makita/Rockstar truck and the Amsoil/Kumho Tire/Sycuan Ford of Scott Douglas fought for third.  In a thrilling, side-by-side battle, Renezeder and Huseman made contact.  Renezeder spun out in turn one and got a flat tire ending his race.  Huseman took off with the lead to the checkered flag.  Fighting for second LeDuc, Douglas and Steve Barlow’s Red Bull/Bosch Power Tools truck battled it out.  The last turn of the final lap had the crowd on their feet as Barlow got past Douglas then made contact with LeDuc who was running in second.  LeDuc spun sideways and fell back two positions to fourth.  Huseman took first, Barlow took second and Douglas took third.

Chad Hord‘s #9 BOSS Snowplow/Kumho Tires/Amsoil truck led the first eight laps of the Pro Lite race while the #4 Traxxas Toyota of Jeff Kincaid worked his way up the line, quickly knocking off positions.  A right rear flat took away all chances of a win for Hord, when he was forced into the hot pits.  Kincaid moved into first and quickly drove away with the win.  Robert Naughton’s #54 Ready Lift Suspension truck followed behind in second and the #15 Kolpin truck of Marty Hart crossed the finish line in third.

In a change of pace, #377 Rino Navara ended #307 Bryan Freeman’s five-race winning streak in the Single Buggy class.  In the Pro Buggy race, #941 Jerry Whelchel led the first half of the race but couldn’t hold on.  Rob MacCachren in his #921 buggy stared in 24th position and moved into second while #933 Greg George took the win.
